He attended East Los Angeles College and Fullerton College before transferring to the University of California Irvine, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and social conduct. He later earned a master’s diploma in counseling and his doctor of education, specializing in community school leadership, from California State University. As one of the state’s legislative education leaders, Medina played a pivotal position in securing elevated state funding for education. This year, he authored AB 101, which requires all California students to take ethnic studies course as a highschool graduation requirement.
